Short description:

In order to measure transported goods on trucks exactly, 3D laser scanners from the LASE 3000D-C2-11x series will be used in combination with the LaseTVM-Software application. The laser scanners are mounted on a Gate in 7 m height centrally above the ground. When a truck reaches the stopping area the individual loading volume can be determined. The differential value out of the current loading quantity and the empty profile amounts to the loading volume.

The application can not only be installed in combination with a traffic light system but also as GATE system or even with a kiosk system where OCR cameras capture number/license plates during registration.

Fall pipe and bulk measurements on Jan De Nuls "Subsea Rock Installation Vessel"

While the Bavarians are happy about winning the Triple, LASE installs even FOUR applications on one vessel! Dredging specialist and operator Jan De Nul utilizes laser scan and bulk measurement solutions by LASE for the Joseph Plateau - a "Subsea Rock Installation Vessel".

The world leader in dredging works, land reclamation and cable- or pipelaying on the global oceans orders four different measurement systems for its latest ship Joseph Plateau. Our proven laser technology is used on a 191 m long vessel for precise rock dumping in a depth of up to 2.000 m for the protection and stabilization of subsea pipelines. The system for the assembly of the fall pipe is extremely advanced and operates fully automatically. Due to the repeated successful collaboration with the company Jan De Nul, LASE was able to distinguish oneself in the area of intelligent laser measuring technology through its expertise in this huge project.


The complete turnkey solutions are divided into the following four applications:

1. LaseFPM - Fall Pipe Position Measurement  

2. LaseFDM - Fall Pipe Distance Measurement

3. LaseBVB - Bulk Volume Bunker

4. LaseBPC - Bulk Profile Conveyor


 

1. LaseFPM - Fall Pipe Position Measurement

On this special vessel fall pipes are used for covering undersea cables with filling material which are stuffed on board. These fall pipe consists of several single pieces which are put into each other by a robot.  Due to the state of the sea the fall pipe moves in a scope of about 2 m. For the assembly of the fall pipe it is important to determine relative position between the pipe in the water and the next pipe which has to be attached. The position will be profiled and detected in an average time of 12 msec with an accuracy of +/- 10 mm at a distance of about 5 m.

2. LaseFDM - Fall Pipe Distance Measurement

The second fall pipe measurement system was created to determinate the distance of a top-flange and the bottom-flange of a new pipe from a pipe string to reduce the impact at contact. For the mounting operation four laser scanners have to be installed which are also able to detect the vertical scan area at rough sea and the resulting vibrations of the pipe. In the case of dismounting only one laser scanner needs to be used due to a higher position of the pipe removal. With a pipe diameter of 1.000 mm the scan planes are in a distance of 800 mm to each other. In total the hardware equipment in this application consists of five 2D-scanners and one specific LASE processing unit for evaluation operations.

3. LaseBVB - Bulk Volume Bunker

At this system solution out of the bulk measurement range, four 3D laser scanners are installed above both bunkers. At each bunker two scanners are „looking“ down on the bunker and scan its volume and profile. Out of the raw data a 3-dimensional image of both bunker profiles will be developed and compared to a so called „0-profile“ which was taken during the commissioning at the beginning. Out of the obtained data from the LASE CEWS application the software calculates the profiles and the volumes of both bunkers parallel and precise. Additionally it is also possible to extract mechanical parts (e.g. excavators in the middle of the bunker) from the scan/profile data due to special filter technology. Because of the accurate volume measurement a continuous inventory can be processed and provides a basis for material disposal.

4. LaseBPC - Bulk Profile Conveyor

In this application out of our Bulk Logistics range up to four 2D-laser scanners are installed above the two conveyor belts of the vessel. At each conveyor belt a scan level across the conveying direction of the belt is projected. A two-dimensional image of the bulk material will be developed and compared to a so called „zero-profile“ which was taken during the commissioning at the beginning. Out of the obtained data the software calculates the volume and mass flow rate of both conveyor belts parallel. By the use of high performance laser scanners with a scan ratio of up to 300 scans per second, the material is recorded reliably even at a high transportation speed (see fig. 8). Special algorithms for the adjustment and calibration ensure a high accuracy. The LASE measuring system allows a safe operation even under raw environmental conditions.

LaseRCD - Rotary Car Dumper

Contactless object detection and emptiness control system for rotary railcar dumper station or "wagon tipplers".

Short description:

Two 3D-Laser scanners (one per wagon) are mounted above the wagons and the rail dumper. The application LaseRCD - Rotary Railcar Dumper collects the scanner data and performs all needed calculations. Before tipping the wagons, the scanners measure the surface of the bulk material inside the wagons by swiveling the scan plane from one side of the wagon to the other. After the unloading procedure the scanners are swiveling back and measure the inner surface of each waggon.

Short description:

Depending on the size of the heap, one or more 3D-laser scanners are installed on a unit (Stacker/Reclaimer) for the realisation. The scanner is „looking“ above from the unit on the heap and scans the heap profile. In connection with the position of the unit a 3-dimensional heap profile will be developed and compared to a so called „0-profile“ which was taken during the commissioning . In all later operations the current 3D-image of the heap is going to be charged with this „0-profile“. Out of the obtained data the LASE CEWS application software calculates the profile and the volume of the heap precisely.

LaseBCP - Bulk Collision Prevention

Short description:

The measurement system LaseBCP - Bulk Collision Prevention consists of four LASE 2000D laser scanners, that are mounted at the vertical conveyor and a LASE Control Unit (LCU). Each of both laser scanners scan in a vertical area alongside the outer skin of the vertical conveyor and measure the distance to the ship’s hatch. In case of a lower deviation by a parameterized value a collision warning will be output directly. Additionally, next to the anti-collision system, an information about the fill level can be given.

LaseBTL - Bulk Train Loading-station

Short description:

The measurement system LaseBTL - Bulk Train Loading-station consists of six LASE 2000D laser scanners and a LASE Control Unit (LCU).  At each side two laser scanners ( at the front and behind the train loading station) are situated besides the rail and measure the side wall of the waggons and the tractor in a horizontal level. Thereby the train position and velocity is determined. A further laser scanner is centrally installed in front of the loading station above the rails and measures the interior profile in order to check the emptiness of the waggons . Another laser scanner is located behind the loading station to measure each fill level.

Short description:

For this measurement system LaseBVB - Bulk Volume Bunker the laser scanners are centrally installed on the cranes's bridge girder above the conveyor belt and the data are processed to the LASE-Control Unit (LCU). A 2-dimensional profile of the bunker will be recorded and in connection with the crane position a 3-dimensional image of the whole bunker profile will be developed and compared to a so called „zero-profile“ which was created on the empty conveyor during the commissioning.

In this case the bunker is divided into fields analogical to a chessboard and subsequently the current filling level (Min., Max., Mean) of each single field will be transferred to the process control system now. It is also possible that several crane systems can operate in the same bunker where on each crane a particular laser scanner will be installed. Furthermore it is feasible to apply up to four bunkers inside the software.

Short description:

At the measurement system LaseBVC - Bulk Volume Conveyor one LASE 2000D laser scanner is installed centrally above the conveyor belt across the conveying direction of the belt. Out of the obtained data a 2-dimensional profile of the bulk material is generated and by a previous zero-scan during the commissioning the profile of the empty belt is recorded. In conjunction with the belt speed the LASE CEWS application software is able to calculate the volume flow and material density precisely and outputs all results in a visualization and through several interfaces. By the usage of a high-resolution scanner with up to 300 scans per second the material will be recorded reliably; even at high transportation speed. Special algorithms for the adjustment and calibration assure a high accuracy, too.

This robust system provided by LASE allows a safe operation even under raw environmental conditions.
